Human Touch

See below for Human Touch sheet music and learning tracks.

I wrote this song in 2020, during the Covid-19 pandemic. It was the year in which the grim phrase “social distancing” was coined. Human Touch is more of a mantra than a song; a dream of a future when hugging is allowed.

In early December, there was a brief time when up to six people could meet. The Frenchays took the opportunity to gather in Cumnor Village Hall, near Oxford. It was the first time I had heard the piece being sung by real human beings, and I found it incredibly moving to hear my dear friends breathing life into it.

We recorded the session, and made a video using still images from a zoom meeting:

In this arrangement, the piece is sung three times through:

1. Soprano, alto, tenor and bass.
2. The four parts are joined by the tenor part, sung an octave higher.
3. The men drop out, leaving the soprano and alto parts, and the tenor part raised an octave.

Anyone is welcome to sing this song and to print copies of the sheet music. If you want to perform Human Touch, or to record it, please talk to me first. If you'd like to donate to the composer, please use the button to donate. All contributions gratefully received.
